SNC cancels low water alert

The past couple weeks of rain have raised the river levels all throughout Eastern Ontario. Enough for the South Nation Conservation Authority to cancel its low water alert.

The start of June saw the regional conservation authority declare a Level One Low Water Condition situation for the South Nation River watershed. The previous three months had seen a 20 per cent drop in the average precipitation for the area resulting in less runoff going into the South Nation River and its tributaries.

A Level One Low Water situation calls for voluntary water use restrictions and conservation measures.

The past rainfall for June and July have brought water levels in the South Nation region back to normal for this time of year. SNC is canceling the low water alert but will continue to monitor water levels over the next month.

Residents are asked to continue practising water conservation around their homes and offices.
